Men’s Travelling conference
The Men’s Travelling Conference is an annual activity that MEGEN has been undertaking during the global 16 Days of Activism on Gender violence. MEGEN has been going down to the community and engaging them where they work and live. This approach is meant to sensitize those persons who may not attend formal seminars and workshops due to the work they do or the distance from where they reside or work.
MTC uses a very interesting and creative approach to reach the people. The entire MEGEN activists’ body is divided per the route to be taken. MEGEN has in the past had three routes i.e. the Eastern- Coast route, the Eastern- Central Route and the rift Valley- Nyanza- Western route. In 2010 MTC, Rift Valley- Nyanza- Western route was broken into North Rift- Western and South Rift- Nyanza Routes.
During the MTC the Advocacy team mobilizes the community members using songs, dances and chants then they perform a skit that portrays the particular SGBV issue to be tackled. After the skit, a facilitator from the Capacity Building program engages the audience in discussions on what the advocacy team had showcased.
After which the entire MTC team led by the Survivor Support Team leader gets to engage the community one to one and to note down case studies for further follow up.
During the MTC the number of people reached is in the tens of thousands in just a few days.
